Kasturba Gandhi, known affectionately as Ba, married Mohandas Gandhi in 1882, when she was thirteen years old. After decades of struggle alongside her husband in South Africa and India, Kasturba joined her husband in detention in Poona following the 'Quit India' movement. When Gandhi left for London on September 4,1888, Ba was already a mother. Harilal, her oldest son, was born earlier that year. Manilal was born in 1892; prior to Gandhi's return to Durban in April 1893. Ramdas was born in 1897 in Durban, following Gandhi's brief 1896 visit to India.
